Richa Chada

When the world was at a standstill during the second lockdown, actor Richa Chadha decided to make the most of her time by venturing into writing. Not content with just becoming a producer, she channeled her creativity into penning the script for a heartfelt dramedy, in which she is also set to star. The film, tentatively titled Akhri Somvaar, promises to be an engaging blend of humor, emotions, and societal reflection.

About Akhri Somvaar

The story follows a successful reality TV producer who, despite thriving in her career, suddenly finds herself desperate to get married after someone at work dismissively labels her a “childless cat lady.” The comment triggers a deep sense of self-reflection, sending her on a journey filled with relatable struggles, hilarious situations, and touching moments as she navigates the pressures of love, marriage, and expectations.

Speaking about the inspiration behind Akhri Somvaar, Richa Chadha shares, “From my experiences of growing up in a middle-class Punjabi household and watching older cousins being set up for arranged marriages, emerged this deeply personal story that I believe many families will resonate with. When we graduate from college, we are full of dreams and ambitions. Somehow, those dreams get dulled when we enter the job market, and before you know it, you’re in your mid-30s, hoping to have both a career and a family. But society often makes you feel like it’s too late. This film is a slice-of-life story about coming undone and coming together.”

She further added, “I think there’s currently a dearth of family entertainment, and my comic timing as an actor has been greatly underutilized. From a producer’s perspective, I see it as a monetizable asset.”

Akhri Somvaar promises to be a refreshing take on love, societal expectations, and the lengths one goes to for a dream wedding. While Richa remains tight-lipped about the director chosen to helm the project, anticipation is already building for this unique and heartfelt film.
