The ongoing Cannes Film Festival is making the headlines more for its fashion this year as compared to the discussions about the films being screened there. In a recent chat, actress Richa Chadha got candid about the fashion evolution at the film festival and revealed whose Cannes looks she loves. The ‘actress ‘Heeramandi’ actress also spoke about fashion in Bollywood and how she’s still getting the hang of the fashion game.
Richa Chadha reveals her favourite Cannes fashion looks
During a chat with News 18 Showsha, Richa Chadha got candid about the fashion evolution game at the Cannes Film Festival. Sharing two of her favourite looks from the festival over the years, the soon-to-be mommy said, “I think Nandita Das, who got invited to be on the jury for Cannes several years ago, held her own in a simple saree.”
Applauding Mallika Shreawat’s fashion game at Cannes, the actress said, “There was a lot of critique and ridicule for Mallika Sherawat at that time but if you look back at those pictures from 15 years ago, she looked great! She knew what she was projecting. She knew how to make use of her full body and fitness. Mallika created her own persona.”
Richa Chadha on ‘classist’ nature of the fashion industry
The actress stated that the ‘classist’ nature of the film industry was the reason top designers refrained from lending their creations to her. Talking about how she finally only got a stylish only during the promotions of Masaan, the ‘Heeramandi’ actress said, “If you emerge from a film like Oye Lucky Lucky Oye or Gangs Of Wasseypur, they assume you to be the character. Only when they have a real conversation with you do they understand your pedigree. Pedigree doesn’t only have to come from Bandra or from a film family. I think I’ve tremendous cultural capital.”
The ‘Fukrey’ actress, revealing she’s still learning the whole fashion game, added, “It took me a year during Gangs Of Wasseypur to understand how the game works. I may not have had the best HMU team. I may still be learning all those things but I understood that if there’s a press event, I need to get a stylist to source clothes for me.”
