Legendary actor Dilip Kumar succumbed to his age-related illness on Wednesday morning. His demise has come as a shock to everyone with Bollywood celebrities and fans paying their heartfelt tribute. Spanning over a career of six decades, Dilip Kumar’s contribution to cinema has been immense. Known as the ‘tragedy king’ of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar has worked in over 65 films including Devdas, Mughal-E-Azam, Qila, Ram Aur Shyam. Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to express his tribute to Dilip Kumar.
Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “T 3958 – An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be ‘before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar’ .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss .. Deeply saddened.” Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar worked together in Ramesh Sippy’s Shakti. Among other achievements, Dilip Kumar received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in the field of the art form for his contribution to Indian cinema. He is also the recipient of Padmabhushan, the second-highest civilian award by the government. He is perhaps the only Indian to be bestowed with Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Dilip Kumar is survived by his wife Saira Banu. Their love story is classic and considered to be one of a kind.
Apart from being a part of some iconic movies, Dilip Kumar has featured in some iconic songs including Udein Jab Jab Zulfien Teri, Aaj Ki Raat Mere Dil Ki Salaamein, Pyaar Kia Toh Darna Kya, Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam, Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka among others.
