Rishi Kapoor never shies away to voice his opinions on politics, education, and other issues. The actor was in New York for almost a year for his cancer treatment. Even during the treatment, he was active on social media and tweeted on various issues. Now, the actor is upset as he feels that the government does not treat the artistes’ community well. He told IANS, “We are the nation that is known worldwide for cinema, music and culture. But look at how our icons are treated. Does the government recognise our icons as much as other nations? All the new roads, flyovers, airports are so far named after politicians. Why not name these after artistes?”

He further said, “We have icons like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Allah Rakha, Lata (Mangeshkar) ji. (I am) not saying this because they are my family but can you overlook the contribution of Raj Kapoor and Prithviraj Kapoor in the business of entertainment? They are celebrated worldwide but not in my country. Why so?”

Rishi Kapoor also said that in the USA, there are places named after celebs like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and other artistes but in India, everything is named after politicians. “We have achievers like astronaut Kalpana Chawla. She is an inspiration for many youngsters. How well versed are our kids about her? Politicians are only changing names with an agenda. Our artists are not honoured enough in their lifetime,” added the actor taking a jibe at the government.
