The iconic RK Studios has been in the news since the past year. First it was the burning down of its sets which made headlines and then there was the talk about how it was creating huge losses for the Kapoors. Finally the Kapoors took the tough call of selling it off. They had been in talks with various builders for buying the 2.2 acres of property at Chembur, Mumbai. Finally the deal has been sealed with Godrej Properties.
Yes, you read that right. The prime location property has been sold off to Godrej and they are planning to make housing complexes out there. Considering it’s one of the prime locations in Chembur, it will probably sell off like hot cakes when the builders announce the news finally.
According to a report on Business Standard, the developer can build approximately 33,000 square meters of salable area which would be approximately 0.35 million square feet. Quite a huge plot, we must say. The amount of the sale has yet being kept undisclosed, but it’s being said that it’s on the ball park figure of Rs 200 cr.
It is being said that the property will be a mixed-use project. It will have luxury retail as well as modern residences. So all you Bollywood fans, you can now own a house on the same land where Raj Kapoor and Nargis danced and romanced for their iconic ‘Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua Hai’ song. Not only that, it has had some of the most popular movies shot in its premises.
It’s truly the end of an era. Sad news!
