SS Rajamouli’s epic period drama RRR has been nominated for five Critics Choice Awards. The Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer received nods for Best Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Foreign Language Film, Best Visual Effects and Best Song (Naatu Naatu). The list of 2023 nominations was shared by the Critics Choice awards on Wednesday.

In the Best Picture category, RRR, will be competing with Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick and Women Talking.

In the directorial category SS Rajamouli is competing with James Cameron (Avatar: The Way of Water), Damien Chazelle (Babylon), Todd Field (Tár), Baz Luhrmann (Elvis), Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin), Sarah Polley (Women Talking), Gina Prince (Bythewood – The Woman King), and Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans).
RRR follows a pre-Independence fictional story around two real-life Indian revolutionaries — Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt the film released worldwide in March in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
The film has also bagged two nominations in the Golden Globe Awards 2023. It is under the Best Picture non-English language category and the Best Original Song category for Naatu Naatu.
The Critics Choice Awards 2023 will be presented on January 15, 2023 in Los Angeles. The awards are considered the first in the prestigious American award season, which culminates with the Academy Awards in March.
