Multifaceted actress Priyanka Chopra, had mixed luck last year, what with the Hrithik Roshan – starrer ‘Krrish 3’ turning out to be one of the biggest hits of 2013, but Zanjeer, along with her items numbers in Shootout At Wadala and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-leela , receiving a lacklustre response at best. Therefore she is hoping for the best with ‘Gunday’, which sees her playing Nandita, a Bengali girl who is a cabaret dancer by night and a sari-clad girl-next-door by day.
As per sources, though Gunday is said to be about Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, but it is Priyanka Chopra who is at the forefront while promoting the movie. PeeCee said, “Nandita, to me, is a modern girl of the ’70s who believes in right and wrong. She may be a cabaret dancer, but has a lot of self respect. Nandita is fearless and not afraid of taking on anyone.”
Sources further revealed that her Cabaret number, ‘Asalaam- e- ishqum’, hasn’t as yet gained much appreciation but for Priyanka shooting the song was most challenging, mentally and physically. She said, “It was, emotionally, a difficult time for me because I had just lost my dad 10 days ago. I had already started shooting for Mary Kom (biopic) after dad’s chautha and started working for this song as well. I had to dance wearing five inch heels, on which most can’t even walk. The corsets were very restricting and uncomfortable to dance in. With almost no time in hand to rehearse, I practiced at night and shot early mornings.”
Asked if Gunday will manage to join the Rs.100- crore club, Priyanka offers a diplomatic reply. “I am zero when it comes to numbers. I don’t understand the business and don’t like to either,” she says.
