Ever since the posters of ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar came out, the two young leading ladies playing a role of 60 plus women in the film has been a constant point of discussion. Everyone’s wondering why the makers did not choose veteran actresses like Neena Gupta or someone from the age group of 50s-60s to play the lead in the film instead.
The film’s story is based on the lives of Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, who are amongst the world’s oldest sharpshooters.
A Twitter user recently mentioned in their tweet how actresses like Neena Gupta, Jaya Bachchan or Shabana Azmi would have been more suitable in the role of Chandro and Prakashi. Responding to the user’s comment, Neena Gupta wrote, “Yes I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamse kam humse kara lo bhai (sic)”(let us play roles of our age at least).

Now replying to Neena Gupta’s remark, Rangoli Chandel revealed that the film was initially offered to her sister Kangana Ranaut, who turned down the offer stating that Neena and Ramya Krishna would have been a better choice for the film.

Replying to Neena’s tweet, Rangoli wrote, “Neena ji Kangana was offered this movie and she loved the true story of Grandmom’s achievements she suggested yours and Ramya Krishnan ma’am’s name for lead roles but these men can’t remove deeply rooted sexism from their filthy brains …”

In a series of tweets, Rangoli slammed the makers of the film as well as highlighted how ageism and sexism are deeprooted in the film industry

While we all know that both Bhumi and Taapsee are terrific actors but for this specific film, I personally feel that actresses like Neena or Seema Bhargava should have been taken into consideration. That would have been much more convincing instead of ageing young actresses on-screen. Don’t you agree?
What do you guys think? Do you agree with Neena or Rangoli’s views? Do let us know your thoughts.
