Saif Ali Khan : I will never repeat a mistake like Humshakals

Earlier we had Esha Gupta who had confessed that she had warned her family to not watch ‘Humshakals’ as they would not be able to bear it. Even Bipasha had kept herself away from the promotions of the film saying that she cannot promote a film she does not believe in.

Now we have the Nawab Saif Ali Khan too disowning the film inspite of being a lead in it.

Saif admitted that he had ‘surrendered’ himself to Sajid even though he was uncomfortable with the content. “The film didn’t have a script as such, it was all there in Sajid’s mind. I did whatever he asked me to,” said Saif.

He acknowledged that stepping out of his comfort zone and putting his faith in someone else’s convictions was a mistake he regretted today.

“I did the film thinking that it will help me expand my market, but obviously that wasn’t a clever idea,” said the actor.

He further added, “I was trying to be someone I’m not. The humour was not the kind I enjoy. My upcoming film, Happy Endings, is closer to the comedy I believe in and am known for.”

“I was and I can understand it. The film was very regressive. In fact, while watching it, I asked myself what I was doing in it. I knew I had let my fans down and underestimated their intelligence,” shuddered the ‘shaken up’ actor.

He solemnly promised he would never do such a film again. “I’ve been introspecting a lot and will never repeat a mistake that was Humshakals,” he vowed.

He also confessed that he didn’t enjoy doing the film.

“Looking back, I can see today that I didn’t enjoy a single minute spent on the Humshakals set. I only enjoyed Sajid and Riteish’s company but that was when we weren’t shooting. I won’t blame anybody but myself for this,” he said.

There were reports of Saif doing one more film with Sajid Khan – a project backed by a leading studio and announced ahead of Humshakals’ release.

“My consent depended on how this film performed. Now, obviously I’m not going to doing a second film with Sajid,” he stated, without mincing his words.

Known for his refreshing candour, he admitted that even his wife Kareena Kapoor had expressed her disappointment after the trial show. “She told me that this wasn’t what people expected from me. But she kept her opinions to herself and that was sensitive of her,” he pointed out.

After Humshakals Saif has decided never again to target box-office figures and would rather do films he believes in.
