Saira Banu breaks down as she accepts Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Award for late husband Dilip Kumar, watch video

Late legendary actor Dilip Kumar was awarded with the Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Award. His wife veteran actor Saira Banu accepted it on her husband’s behalf. and broke down at the event. The event was on Tuesday (June 14). A video has gone viral where she was seen accepting the bouquet of flowers, and getting emotional and wiping her tears.

She broke down as Ramdas Athawale was in praise of Dilip Kumar and how she stood by him his whole life. Saira said in the video that this is the reason she does not like attending events as it makes her feel even more emotional.

Saira Banu while addressing the media said, “Dilip Sahab has been the ‘Kohinoor’ for Hindustan. So ‘Kohinoor’ should definitely receive a Bharat Ratna.” She added, “He’s still here. He is not in my memories, I believe it’s the truth that he is here with me at every step, because this is how I will be able to live my life. I will never think that he’s not here. Wo mere paas hain, hamesha mera sahara banke rahenge– mera Kohinoor”.

The Mughal-E-Azam actor and Saira were married for 54 years. The latter was just 12 when she fell in love with Tragedy King. They got married in the year 1966. Dilip Kumar passed away in July 2021. He was not well for several years and was 98 at the time of death.
