In a dramatic twist in the ongoing retrial of Bollywood actor Salman Khan hit-and-run case, his driver Ashok Singh has confessed to being responsible for the accident that killed one and injured four others. The driver, Ashok, told the court that he was driving the car and lost control of it due to a tyre burst.
Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said, “The driver Ashok Singh has been put up by the defence. He has told the court that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.”
When the court asked the driver why he never came forward all these years. He said, “The police did not listen to me on the first day, and after that I did not know what to do.”
The drivers statement corroborates what Salman Khan has been insisting upon and also told the court on Friday, while giving his version of the case for the first time in a court. Khan had insisted that he was not driving the SUV nor had been drinking. He had even said that, he was very much at the incident spot. “I instructed the driver to inform the police. I remained at the spot for 15 minutes or more.”
Salman Khan if convicted might get 10 years in prison.
