Sameer Khakhar, popularly known for playing the role of Khopdi in the iconic TV show Nukkad, is no more. Sameer Khakhar passed away on Wednesday morning. The veteran actor was 71. Sameer Khakhar died due to multiple organ failure. The veteran actor was admitted to MM Hospital in Borivali on Tuesday following respiratory issues.

Ganesh Khakhar, Sameer’s younger brother told PTI, “He had respiratory problems since yesterday and later he went into an unconscious state, so we had called the doctor at home and he asked us to hospitalise him.”
Ganesh added, “He was admitted to the intensive care unit of MM Hospital. Slowly and gradually, he suffered multiple organs failure, he was unconscious and then he collapsed. He passed away at 4.30 am today.”
In his acting career, Sameer appeared in many TV shows and films. He was popularly known for playing the iconic role ‘Khopdi’ in TV show Nukkad.
In an old interview with Indian Express, Sameer had opened up on playing the iconic character. The veteran actor had said, “After Nukkad, most people gave me similar roles. Having started my character on stage, and then doing some wonderful parts, I understand acting. And no artiste with a rational mind would accept doing the same thing again and again. Khopdi was a character that was created with a lot of care by Saeed Mirza. It was very different and humane, and the team had nurtured it with so much love. While everyone wanted to use me as a Khopdi, I had decided to not destroy the character.”
Apart from TV shows, he appeared in movies like Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho, Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra starrer Hasee Toh Phasee, Pyaar Deewana Hota Hai among others. He is now survived by his wife.
