Sania Mirza’s sister CONFIRMS her divorce, seeks privacy; tennis star takes ‘Khula’ from former husband Shoaib Malik

Indian former tennis player Sania Mirza who was married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik is officially divorced. Earlier, reports stated that they got a divorce but nothing was confirmed. Now, her sister Anam Mirza took to her Instagram and dropped a statement, revealing Sania Mirza got a divorce a few months back. She confirmed her divorce after Shoaib Malik announced his second wedding with Pakistani actress Sana Javed.

She dropped an official statement requesting everyone to respect her privacy at ‘this sensitive period of her life’. The statement read, “Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy.“

After Shoaib Malik shared pictures from his wedding with his new wife, Sania’s father Imran Mirza confirmed that his daughter opted for a ‘khula’ from the cricketer. He said, “It was a ‘khula’. I do not wish to comment beyond this.” According to reports, ‘Khula’ is the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband. This right has been granted to women in Islam, allowing them the option to seek divorce.

Shoaib Malik announces his second wedding

On Saturday, the cricketer took to his Instagram and dropped a couple of pictures from their wedding. He captioned the pics with, “Alhamdullilah “And We created you in pairs”.
