Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Sanju‘ has been earning big at the box-office ever since its release. The film has not only broken a number of records, it has also become one of the biggest hits of 2018.
But not many know that actor Sanjay Dutt on whose controversial life the film is based is also making moolah from the film. Yes, if reports are to be believed then the story of the actor’s life came at a hefty price for the makers.
As reported by Freepress journal, “‘Sanju’ didn’t come for free. Sanjay’s team negotiated hard. They finally settled for an outright nine to 10 crore, plus a portion of the box office profit. Only then, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani were given access to the actor’s life.”

Reports further suggest that several incidents and characters from Dutt’s real life were requested to be ‘blocked’ along with the names of the girlfriends who are now settled in their life. It was made clear from the beginning that it would be a selective bio-pic, and Rajkumar Hirani was okay with that
Talking about why he made a film on Sanjay Dutt’s life, Rajkumar Hirani had told India Today Television, “We are obsessed with great stories… It was purely the greed for great content which drove us to that film.”
Even after a week of its release, the movie appears to be ruling at the box-office, with no big competitors to bother about. ‘Sanju’ has successfully minted more than Rs 200 crores in a week, and it is now racing towards the Rs 250-crore mark.
Apart from Ranbir, the biopic also stars Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, and Vicky Kaushal. It was released on 29th June 2018.
