In an interview with Times of India, Rahul said, “I think August 11 was the first time that the media reported that Sanjay has Stage 4 lung cancer. I had requested them to refrain from speculation as certain tests were still underway. We all knew there was a problem but wanted him to be the first one to give out a statement. The media could have written about it later.”

Rahul further said that Sanjay was taking all precautions and medical measures strictly in order to fight the Big C. Rahul said, “Sanju did not linger or waste time. He immediately took all possible steps to cure himself. It was being discussed that he might go abroad for treatment but India has such good doctors that he decided to not fly out. He accepted the problem, which, in itself takes a lot of courage. Some people in his place might not have been able to, and it would have shaken them up mentally. But this is Sanjay Dutt we are talking about. The world knows this man’s journey. He has tackled all problems head-on. Rajkumar Hirani’s film ‘Sanju’ was a stark depiction of that.”
