‘Sanjay Dutt never mentioned what he was going through’ during cancer battle, reveals Shamshera director Karan Malhotra

Sanjay Dutt is all set to star in the upcoming movie titled Shamshera, directed by Karan Malhotra. Although the film is not the first work of the actor ever since he announced he is cancer-free, there were portions of Shamshera, that Dutt filmed during his cancer battle. Sanjay Dutt, who declared he was cancer-free a few months ago, is gearing up for the movie and is busy promoting it in full swing.

Shamshera director Karan Malhotra recalled the time when Sanjay Dutt filmed portions of the film, while battling cancer. He recalled the Shamshera shoot days with Dutt and called the actor ‘Superman’. Malhotra shared how the actor never mentioned what he was going through personally, during the shoot of the film. Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in August 2020.

Recalling the time Dutt was diagnosed with cancer, Karan Malhotra said, “The news that Sanjay sir had been diagnosed with cancer came to all of us like a huge shock. We had no idea about it.” Sharing how the actor was on the sets of Shamshera, Malhotra added, “He was talking, behaving and working like nothing has happened. I guess that’s why he is where he is today, having conquered this too. Sanjay sir doesn’t let anything get the better of him. He is an inspiration on the sets for everyone.”

The Shamshera director continued, “Having given so many years of his life to his craft, Sanjay sir leads from the front and his demeanour shows us all how to conduct ourselves on the set. He went about shooting Shamshera with the attitude that there is nothing he can’t conquer. He never mentioned what he was going through personally. He kept the mood on the set light.”

Karan went on to call Dutt a ‘superman’ for his victory over the deadly disease and keeping a smiling face during the battle. Malhotra further mentioned how he is indebted to Sanjay for his support towards the movie. He said that ‘there is no one like’ Dutt and that he is a ‘constant guide and mentor’ to him.

The movie Shamshera, directed by Karan Malhotra, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. It is scheduled to release in theatres on July 22.

Previously, Dutt was seen in the Prashanth Neel directorial KGF: Chapter 2 opposite Yash, which was a commercial success.
