Sanjay Dutt’s Last Few Night went Sleepless with a bottle of Vodka and packets of cigarettes before he finally surrendered today for a three and a half years jail term before the Tada court in Mumbai this afternoon.
A report in Mumbai Mirror quotes sources close to Dutt as saying that he had taken to drinking an entire a bottle of vodka a day, over the last few weeks.
“Baba is unable to sleep without it. He wouldn’t listen to anyone, including Manyata advising him against it. And when he is not drinking, he is smoking,” the friend told the tabloid. The tabloid also quotes sources saying Dutt has been inconsolable when around his twins who are aged two and a half.
Dutt also fears that he may not be able to withstand the next three and a half years of his life in jail. He has reportedly told those who visit him, how he worries about the condition of toilets and hygiene in jail. “How will I survive without fans, pillows and mosquito repellents? I had none of these when I was last jailed in 1993 but don’t forget I was 33 then. I am a 53-year-old man now,” the tabloid reported.
In what must have come as a relief for the actor then, the court today granted him access to home-cooked food, mattress and pillows for a month, NDTV reported.
Dutt, who has said he fears for his life following an anonymous threat letter, will be taken to Arthur Road jail this evening for medical tests and may later be taken to Yerwada jail in Pune, where he had served a short part of his sentence earlier.
Dutt is likely to be given the task of cooking for his fellow inmates and washing utensils as jail duty.
According to an Indian Express report, Dutt will receive Rs. 25 as daily allowance for the duty he does in jail and a sum of Rs. 1500 as allowance for his family.
