Sanjay Dutt and Omung Kumar are doing quite a few movies together. While we have all known that Sanju Baba’s comeback movie ‘Bhoomi’ helmed by Kumar is all set for release next month and another movie called ‘Malang’ is also in the pipeline, here comes news of a third movie. The movie titled as ‘The Good Maharaja’ is out with its first poster. In the poster, Sanjay holds a royal and regal look, that of a Maharaja. An entertainment journalist has tweeted the poster:

The movie is said to be a historical one wherein Sanjay will be portraying the role of Maharaja Jam Sahib Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji, the ruler of Nawanagar, a princely state in British India. During his rule, the noble King provided shelter to many abandoned Polish children during the World War 2. It will be an English-Polish production and Omung has been working on it since a year and a half. The team of the movie had even sought permissions from the Polish Government officials last year to shoot for the movie. Kumar threw light on Sanjay’s look in the movie. Speaking with a daily he said, “We have photographs of the Maharaja for reference. We will take certain creative liberties but are trying to keep things as authentic as possible. Sanjay looks regal and it was his idea to do this role and I wanted to direct it because it’s a superb story.” Producer Sandeep Singh added, “Sanjay Dutt’s image has the aura of royalty. We have done look tests and we are very excited with the outcome. Baba is very excited about this film and this will be a big budget film that will span across continents.”

There were reports that filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker had also acquired rights to the story on the Maharaja’s descendants. Addressing these reports, Omung Kumar had said, “I read about it but I don’t know the details. What I know is that I have been working on my script for a year-and-a-half and have even put together a book on it. We have done a look test with Sanjay and he and (filmmaker) Sandeep Singh have met Polish government officials for shooting permissions. We are also in touch with Indian officials. We have to create the trucks and trams used in that period, as well as orchestrate the journey of the ships… How the refugees landed in Mumbai, and finally in Jamnagar, we have to carefully cover every aspect of the story.”

‘The Good Maharaja’ is going be the first movie to be made on World War 2 by an Indian production house in collaboration with Polish production company.
