Sara Ali Khan is just three films old but she already knows the pulse of the audience. From signing masala entertainers to choosing to work with celebrated filmmakers, Sara has been smartly making her choices.
The young actress’ latest film ‘Coolie No 1’ is all set to release on December 25. She will be sharing screen space with Varun Dhawan for the first time in this film which is a remake of David Dhawan’s film of the same name that released in 1995. Now ahead of ‘Coolie No 1’s release, Sara in a recent interview was asked about the problematic aspects of the original film. Surprisingly, Sara has defended those aspects. Read on to know what she said.
In the original film, Govinda’s character tricks Karisma’s character into falling in love with him. He hides his true-identity for winning over the girl. Now 25 years down the line, such duping tactics don’t seem to be funny anymore.
However, commenting on these problematic aspects, Sara in an interview with Mid-Day said, “I’d urge people to watch the film with the honest intention with which it is told. There is a difference between what you say on Twitter, and what an entertaining comedy tries to say. If everybody [expects] everything to be politically correct, any scope of humour in our lives will be lost.”

The actress further added, “Of course, you can’t be demeaning. Govinda sir duping Karisma to make her believe that he is not a coolie, is funny. It’s not about him cheating. Ultimately, he falls in love with her, and that’s what most of us look forward to in life.”
Further talking about how Varun helped her improve her comic-timing, Sara said, “I am not as spontaneous as my dad or my mother. It’s all about reacting to what the other person says. It’s a difficult genre to crack. Varun helped me improve my comic timing. He is much more experienced in this genre.”
Owing to the pandemic, ‘Coolie No 1’ is scheduled to release on Amazon Prime Video on December 25.
