Omung Kumar’s ‘Sarbjit’ starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan which had released in May this year, received thumbs up from the critics as well as it proved to be a profitable venture for its makers. And now, the makers of the film have stated that they will be sending the movie to the Oscars 2017 in the Best Foreign Film category.
Producer of the movie, Vashu Bhagnani said “We will send it as an entry, independently or in the race with other films. We will channelise our energy to make sure Sarbjit is in the race to become India’s entry to the Oscar this year.”
Well, ‘Sarbjit’ won’t be the only movie sent from the country. There will be other movies which will be competing with the biopic. Later, finally one of them will succeed to be in the final nomination and that will be decided by the Oscar Panel.
The movie was screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 where it was highly appreciated. Bhagnani added, “We will also enrol the film as one of the competitors in the bid for National Awards.”
