Kamal Haasan’s ex-wife, actor Sarika has revealed that during COVID-19 lockdown she ran out of money. She also shared that working in theatres didn’t help her much as she was making less than Rs 3000. She also opened up about taking a break of five years in her career.

Speaking with News18.com, Sarika said, “I just thought I was wasting life in a way if you look at it. You wake up every morning, (things) don’t happen, you go to sleep. So I just decided to take one year’s break and not do any work. Go away and do something totally different.

She added that she started doing theatres. “One year turned into five years. So I was just happy doing all that,” added Sarika.

She went on to add, “Lockdown happened and the money ran out, so where do you go? You go back to acting because in theatre you just get like Rs 2000-2700 and you can’t do anything so this is why I was not at all there. It was a very conscious decision but I thought it would be for a year but it turned out to be five years. Those were great five years.

On the work front, Sarika will be seen in Alankrita Shrivastrava’s upcoming series. In the upcoming Prime Video Anthology, Sarika features in My Beautiful Wrinkles. It also stars Danesh Razvi and Ahsaas Channa. It is produced by Pritish Nandy Communications and will premiere on May 13.

Just as she was planning to return back to films, Sarika made a list of filmmakers she wanted to work with. Sarika revealed that Alankrita was one of them. She said, “I had seen her film when I was on a break. So I used to say that if and when I go back to acting, I want to work with her because she’s so good.

Besides that, she also has Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming film, Unnchai. She will be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, and Parineeti Chopra.
