Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has been ordered by the Supreme Court to deposit an amount of Rs 20 crore to a real estate firm to get back his land. He had entered into an agreement with Prajita Developers Pvt Ltd in 2006 to develop the property measuring 2412 square yards, but no construction took place there. A bench of Justice J Chelameswar requested the actor to deposit the amount as demand draft within four weeks and intimate the firm.

Justice S Abdul Nazeer said, “Upon the receipt of such intimation, Prajita shall withdraw all the security personnel deployed by it and hand over possession of the property in question within a period of seven days from the date of the receipt of the above-mentioned intimation to the appellant in the presence of Commissioner of Police, Mumbai or any other senior police officer subordinate to the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai to be nominated by the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner of Police or his nominee shall draw a Panchnama of the fact of the handing over of the property by Prajita to the appellant and file the same in the Registry of this Court within a week from the date of the handing over of the possession. Upon the filing of the Panchnama, Prajita shall be at liberty to withdraw the amount of Rs 20 crore deposited by the appellant pursuant to this order.” (Also Read: Shah Rukh Khan pays a special visit to Dilip Kumar, at latter’s house. The top court has appointed ex-SC judge Justice P Venkatarama Reddy as the arbitrator to decide upon whether the firm was entitled for more damages other than the amount of Rs 20 crore. The bench said, “The background of the facts and circumstances of the case whether Prajita would be entitled for any damages apart from receiving the above-mentioned amount of Rs 20 crore from the appellant is a matter which requires some examination. We therefore, deem it appropriate to refer the said question for resolution by arbitration between the appellant and Prajita.”

So, in the year 2006, an agreement took place between the actor and the firm to develop the property and according to the agreement, the construction was to be finished in a span of 2 years, however, the firm failed to do so. Hence, the actor went to court to get his property back. He had also received an amount of Rs 8.5 crores approximately from the company in interest. The court then accepted the actor’s proposal who made a promise to pay Rs 20 crore to the firm to earn the possession of the land and brought an end to the decade-old case.
