Shabana Azmi’s mother Shaukat Kaifi passes away at 93

Shabana Azmi’s mother Shaukat Kaifi took her last breath on November 22. She was 93 at the time of death. She was a veteran theatre and film actor. She was not keeping well since long and passed away in the evening at her Juhu home where her daughter Shabana Azmi was also present.

As reported by PTI, her son-in-law Javed Akhtar confirmed the news and said, “She was 93 and she was having one problem after another. She was admitted to Kokikaben Dhirubai Ambani hospital, for certain days she was in the ICU and then she was out of ICU. It was all age related.”

“Ultimately they brought her home. She wanted to come back to her own room she stayed for a day or two and then passed away. Shabana is in Mumbai,” he added.

Shaukat Kaifi appeared in movies like ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Bazaar’ and ‘Salaam Bombay!’among others.

She is survived by her daughter Shabana, son and Baba Azmi who is a renowned cinematographer.

The last rites will take place on November 23 i.e on Saturday.
