Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan to play parallel leads in The King; actioner to be made a whopping 200 crore budget

Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as the King of Bollywood treated audiences to three blockbuster hits in 2023: ‘Pathaan,’ ‘Jawaan,’  and ‘Dunki.’ Adding to the Khan legacy, his daughter, Suhana Khan, made her Bollywood debut with the Netflix film ‘Archies.’ According to sources, the dynamic father-daughter duo is poised to grace the silver screen together in their upcoming project titled ‘The King.’

Initially rumoured to feature Shah Rukh Khan in an extended cameo whereas Suhana took on a prominent role. The script has since been reworked to place Khan senior in the lead position, as per recent reports. ‘The King’ will be helmed by acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh, known for his successful films such as ‘Jaane Jaan,’ ‘Badla,’ and ‘Kahaani.’

Described as an action thriller, the film boasts a substantial budget of Rs 200 crores. Siddharth Anand, the director of ‘Pathaan,’ is set to oversee the film’s action sequences. He aims to assemble a top-notch international team to deliver action sequences on a global scale.

A report initially stated that ‘The King’ has a budget of Rs 200 crore. The sources indicate that the action-packed film might surpass this figure, given the ambitious vision of the team. The movie is expected to fall within the same budget range or might exceed it.

In ‘The King,’ Shah Rukh Khan is set to portray a mentor figure to Suhana’s character, drawing parallels to the acclaimed 1994 action film ‘Leon.’ The narrative is poised to explore themes of guidance and mentorship amidst high-octane action sequences, promising an engaging cinematic experience. Pre-production work is currently underway for ‘The King,’ with filming anticipated to commence later this year. The team strives for a 2025 release date and aims to deliver a polished and immersive viewing experience worldwide.

For The Archies actress, ‘The King’ marks her first foray into mainstream cinema. This represents her transition to the big screen, showcasing her talent and potential as an actor.
