Shah Rukh Khan has been in the film industry for over 27 years and has done films of different genres which have received a lot of acclaim from critics all over and love from the audiences as well. King Khan is one of the most successful and famous Bollywood stars across the globe. He also enjoys huge fan-following across the world. However, in a sad turn of events, the request for Shah Rukh Khan’s honorary doctorate by Jamia Millia Islamia was rejected by the HRD Ministry.
Interestingly, SRK was a student of the university during the years 1988-1990. He was a student of Jamia’s AJK Mass Communication Research Centre.
According to a report published by the Indian Express under the Right of Information Act (RTI), the rejection for the doctorate came out almost 3 months after the university had applied for the request. Jamia University had requested the honorary doctorate for SRK in February last year.
On April 11 last year, the HRD Ministry rejected it stating that it would not be in order as the actor has already received a similar degree from the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU). In a report, the HRD Ministry said, “It has been observed that Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad has already conferred Honorary degree on Shri Shahrukh Khan in December 2016. Therefore, a view has been taken that two doctorate degrees for the same person would not be in order.”
SRK is also known as the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ and the ‘King of Romance’ and has played some memorable characters. SRK has given numerous hits but there have been a few box-office failures in the recent past with the latest one being ‘Zero’. Importantly, SRK is considering to take up his first ever cop-based project with director Madhur Bhandarkar for his next film titled ‘Inspector Ghalib’.
