Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho co-star Jhanak Shukla opens up on her sabbatical and retiring at 25

Kal Ho Naa Ho fame Jhanak Shukla, who used be the busiest child actor, recently revealed how she had taken a break which apparently also ended her acting career. Jhanak who is in her mid 20’s now is no more into acting. She had portrayed the cute little Gia Kapur in Karan Johar’s Kal Ho Naa Ho and also later on she became famous for her performance in Karishma Kaa Karishma in which she played the title role.

In a new video by Brut India which is doing the rounds on social media, Jhanak said that she had worked a lot by the time she was around 15, but then decided to take a break. “That’s where I lost the track when it comes to acting,” she said.

Jhanak, who is an archaeologist now, shared in the video that she used to be an extrovert and also enjoyed the limelight but now when she is not an actor she prefers spending a lot of me-time. “When I was young, I used to think when I’ll be 24 I’ll be earning a lot, and I’d be settled and married,” she said, adding with a laugh, “I’m 25 and I’m not earning anything.”

The young actress’ initial plan was to move to New Zealand and to work in a museum there, and live a ‘quiet life’. Speaking about taking a break from the world of entertainment, Jhanak said, “My retirement has already begun. My parents say that because I don’t work as much. I chill. I make soaps. I roam. I write sometimes. And I’ve done my masters so I’m like, ‘It’s okay.'”

But what prompted her to take the break? Jhanak answers, “I was not actually fed up with acting. I was 15 or 16 so I was like, ‘I have to chill now.’ Because during childhood I had worked a lot but also my parents, they made me take breaks in between. I used to even go to school on a regular basis and I did my homework and everything, it was fun but somewhere I missed a small part of my childhood. So my parents were also like, ‘Take a break now.'”

Jhanak’s mom Supriya Shukla is also an actor and she is known for her performance in shows like Kumkum Bhagya and Kundali Bhagya to name a few.
