Shah Rukh Khan has been in Bollywood for over 27 years and enjoys a huge fan following across the world. He has done films of different genres but his work in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ gave him a tag of ‘King of Romance’. Recently, SRK revealed that of all people it was only Salman Khan who appreciated his work in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
Shah Rukh Khan was the special guest on the third season of talk show ‘Masterclass’. In conversation with host Cyrus Sahukar the actor shared this anecdote about Salman Khan. King Khan said, “I still remember, this was at the premiere of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. I had a couple of friends sitting beside me. There is a scene in the movie where I say ‘Raj agar yeh tujko pyaar karti hai toh palat ke dekhegi. Palat. Palat. Palat.’ And at that point, my friend tells me ‘It looks like you’ll kill her like you killed the girl in Baazigar. If you weren’t in this movie, it would do really well.’ I felt very sad.”
“The first person outside the production who saw the film and said it’s a great one was my friend Salman Khan,” he added. SRK also thanked all women in his life. He said, “Even today it’s strange that everyone calls me a romantic hero because I’m really awkward doing it. I would like to thank all the heroines in this country who’ve done films with me because they made me really comfortable.”
“Every time I’d do a scene, I’d say I cannot do this, what to do? And they said- Just do it, don’t worry. I would say these things to Kajol, Madhuri, Juhi, everyone. And they’ve always supported and been kind to me,” he revealed in the end.
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ also known as ‘DDLJ’ was directed by Aditya Chopra. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie was released in 1995. The film witnessed stellar performances by Kajol, Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Mandira Bedi and others. Karan Johar, who was yet to make his debut as a director, also featured in the film. Importantly, ‘DDLJ’ was the highest grossing Bollywood film of that year. It continues to run at Mumbai’s ‘Maratha Mandir’ even today, making it one of the longest running movies ever.
