Shah Rukh Khan to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Sultan?

Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali had given us ‘Devdas’, an epic film together. Since then the fans of the filmmaker and the actor have been hoping that the Titans will once again come together for another such blockbuster. With the announcement of Bhansali’s upcoming period film Padmavati that is based on Allaudin Khilji and Padmavati, hopes of the fans have risen sky high with a belief that SRK and Bhansali might come together for this one.

Bhansali, who has done two super hit flicks with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, might cast the leggy lass as Padmavati and as there are two protagonists — Raja Ratansen and Sultan Allaudin Khilji in the story. So rumours are rife that Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer will be cast for the roles.

However sources deny any such casting. They said, “SLB is working on two scripts. One will feature SRK, and one Ranveer. They will not be part of the same film.” Says a trade analyst, “While Padmavati is being pitched as an anti-hero film, it is all about Padmavati, a heroine-centric film. It won’t interest SRK. SLB met Khan on Sunday and the two are in talks for a role. But it’s most likely for another film.”

Sources added, “Shah Rukh has played an anti-hero many times before. From ‘Baazigar’ to ‘Don’ to ‘Fan’. Why would he act in a film that belongs to the leading lady? Also, he has two films to start. Imtiaz Ali’s next as well as Aanand L Rai’s dwarf film. SLB has already announced the release date of Padmavati for next year, which means the shooting should start this year. SRK simply doesn’t have the dates for it.”

It is possible that if the filmmaker casts Deepika Padukone in the titular role of Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh will happily play the anti-hero Allauddin Khilji opposite Dippy.
