At the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, Indian superstar and global icon, Shah Rukh Khan will be awarded with the Festival’s career achievement award, the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Tourism. The award will pay tribute to his remarkable career in Indian cinema consisting of more than 100 films in a breathtaking multitude of genres.
Popularly known in India as ‘King Khan,’ the actor will receive the award on the evening of Saturday, August 10 on Piazza Grande. SRK will appear at the Forum @Spazio Cinema for a conversation open to the public on Sunday, August 11.
Shah Rukh Khan’s career & accolades
Shah Rukh Khan is hugely popular amongst audiences worldwide thanks to his diverse range of films. Some of his most acclaimed and breakout films include the romantic thriller Baazigar (1993) timeless romantic dramas like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), the romantic psychological thriller Darr (1993), Mani Ratnam’s epic Dil Se.. (1998) and more. His recent releases include three films in 2023, Pathaan (2023), Jawan (2023) and Dunki (2023). Jawan broke box office records and became the highest-grossing Hindi film ever.
The actor – who has appeared in over 100 feature films, has several more acclades to his name, including 14 Filmfare Awards, the Padma Shri, and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Légion d’honneur by the Government of France. Khan received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2007 and the Légion d’honneur in 2014 by the French government. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2005.
The Tribute Program
Shah Rukh Khan will be in Piazza Grande to receive the award on the evening of Saturday, August 10. A key film from his career – Devdas by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will be shown during Locarno77. On Sunday, August 11 the public will have a chance to meet with the actor. This will happen during a panel conversation held at the Forum @Spazio Cinema.

Previous winners of the Pardo alla Carriera include Francesco Rosi, Claude Goretta, Bruno Ganz and Claudia Cardinale. Johnnie To, Harry Belafonte, Peter- Christian Fueter, Sergio Castellitto and Víctor Erice have also received the honour. Other winners of this prestigious award include Marlen Khutsiev, Bulle Ogier, Mario Adorf, Jane Birkin, Fredi M. Murer, Dante Spinotti, Costa-Gavras, and Tsai Ming-liang in 2023.
