After Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam-starrer ‘Kaabil’ making it to the theatres in Pakistan, it was time for Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Raees‘ to entertain the masses there. But unfortunately, ‘Raees’ has been banned in Pakistan.
As per reports, the reason for this ban is the inappropriate portray of Islam and Muslims in the film. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, ‘Raees’ has Shah Rukh Khan portraying the role of Muslim who is a bootlegger and one of the biggest gangsters in Gujarat. The film was awaiting a nod from the Censor Board to give a clearance to the film to be released in Pakistan, but apparently the authorities have denied the grant. Reason being “the content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists.”
Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, ‘Raees’ also stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan as the female lead. It is her Bollywood debut film and it is unfortunate that it will not make it to the theatres on her home turf. But on the other end, ‘Raees’ has had a great run at the box office in India.
