Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan trained themselves for Garba, a traditional dance form from Gujarat, for ‘Raees’. ‘Udi Udi Jaaye’, a dance number sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Bhoomi Trivedi had both the actors dancing to the tunes of folk beat.
This was the first time that we saw SRK doing Garba, and let us tell you, he was super cool! Meanwhile, choreographer Sameer and Arsh Tanna spoke to a leading daily about having trained SRK and Mahira.
“Mahira and Shah Rukh were extremely professional. Mahira took 10 days to get her steps right, but SRK picked up the moves in just one day. When we started shooting, he’d turn up a couple of hours early time to rehearse with the dancers. That helped immensely and we could okay our takes quickly,” Sameer said. “We choreograph all traditional dance forms, but it’s the garba that has won us recognition in the industry. Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were among the first stars we choreographed in ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. Since then, we have largely been acknowledged for our garba songs,” he added.
The song was picturised on the occasion of Uttarayan, a festival of kites that is celebrated in a grand manner across Gujarat.
