While talking about films, Karan mentioned to Shahid that he comes with a film, Jersey, that didn’t perform as well as expected. As soon as Karan said this, Shahid quipped, “I think you can say that to 90 percent of the people who will come on this couch in the next few months. We are all dealing with what’s going on.”

Then taking a serious route, Shahid Kapoor reflected on what went wrong with the film. “Actually in December, when we were supposed to release the film on 31st, and then we couldn’t release it because Covid came in and Delhi shut down, it literally came 3 days before. All our marketing material was out and everything had been released. And very clearly in my head, in December, I asked myself if I am thinking from my head or I am thinking from my heart because it is a film that was very close to all our hearts and I was very emotionally involved in the character, the father-son dynamic affected me personally as well.”

He went on to add that everyone involved in the film wanted to see it on the 70 mm. “My director and producer, both of them, Gowtam (Tinnanuri) and Aman (Gill) were very keen that the film goes to the big screen. When in December it didn’t happen, I was really thinking that should we just now go straight to digital. Film ko garam karna baar baar bada mushkil hota hai, especially jab aapka sara material out hai. And then unfortunately we released in April which was not a great month for us as there was a certain mood, certain kind of cinema which the audience was watching. We had shifted our dates multiple times by the time we released but you are still optimistic and hopeful, thinking ho jayega yaar but it didn’t work out like that.”

Shahid then went on to take the onus on himself, saying, “I feel that maybe we didn’t do the right thing to the film. Maybe the film needed to be protected.” However, he insisted that he and the film have been receiving a lot of love ever since Jersey was made available on digital.
Shahid indeed gave an impressive performance in the film and it is nice to hear that even though a little late, but he is getting all the love and appreciation that he deserves for his commendable act.
