Shahid talks about physical abuse in movie and personal life
The Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh received a lot of praise but an equal amount of criticism for the concept of love connected to physical abuse. He played the role of an aggressive heartbroken devasted lover. Opening up about the criticism the movie receieved, he revealed, “I’ve seen physical abuse as a child. I understand what you’re talking about. But it was just a dysfunctional love story between a very simple girl and a very talented, brilliant, aggressive, disturbed guy. And stuff like that happens on a day-today basis.” He didn’t reveal the story behind the physical abuse.

Further in the interview, he stated that no one claimed the character was perfect. The promo establishes the protagonist as disturbed, having anger management issues and being self-destructive. He believes that films can depict various aspects of life, not just what is deemed right or wrong.
Shahid Kapoor has been a part of Bollywood for over two decades now. Over time he has played a diverse range of characters. Another character he played for the firs time was in the movie Kabir Singh. It was a remake of the 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy. It starred Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. While the songs and the chemistry of the actor struck a chord with the audience, there were many discussions on the portrayal of his character. His character Kabir Singh was said to be a misogynist and a toxic man.

On the work front, Shahid Kapoor will star alongside Kriti Sanon in a yet-to-be-titled film. The movie will be releasing on 7th December, 2023.
