Shahid Kapoor’s next romantic film may happen with ‘Half Girlfriend?’

Shahid Kapoor is the original choice for many producers when it comes to a romantic film. Most popular for this image among his fans, the ‘Haider’ actor is set to star in one such film where he was considered as the first choice. The adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s last novel ‘Half Girlfriend‘ may get its lead character Madhav Jha?

Sources say, “Shahid was to play the Bihari loverboy. Then Shahid’s Shaandaar bombed and the film’s producers went to Sushant. Unfortunately for them, he had already given away those dates to Dinesh Vijan for his directorial debut.”

“Shahid is now back in the project. It seems the role was destined for him” added the source.

After Shahid Kapoor it was the ‘Kai Po Che’ star Sushant Singh Rajput who was approached to play the title role but he decided to quit. The reason for it was the clash of dates with another film he is doing. Rumors had that Arjun Kapoor who had earlier played the lead in ‘2 States’ yet another adaptation from a novel of Chetan Bhagat was approached after the denial of Sushant, but this was not confirmed as well.

Now the news of Shahid Kapoor stepping in again for this role, who will be his ‘Half Girlfriend’ in the film is a mystery. With name of Kriti Sanon being taken constantly, it is still has to be confirmed.

‘Half Girlfriend’ is a rural-urban love story, about a boy named Madhav Jha from Bihar, who does not speak English well and gets attracted to a rich girl named Riya Somani from Delhi. Let’s see who will play Madhav and Riya in this adaptation.

This film is produced by Ekta Kapoor and will be directed by Mohit Suri, turning out to be their second venture after the successful ‘Ek Villain.’

The film is initially planned for a release in 2016.
