There are some actors in the Hindi film industry today that any film just feels incomplete if they are not a part of them. Sharib Hashmi is one of those actors, and over the course of his career he has got to work with big names like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and many others. The actor has done a lot of credible work but it was The Family Man that brought him immense recognisation. But the journey to reach there hadn’t been easy for him.
Sharib Hashmi on not getting work after working with Shah Rukh Khan
In just the initial years of him working, Sharib got to work with SRK in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma co-starrer was the first real job he got and he has only good memories of it. In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Sharib remembered, “After I started auditioning properly, the first job I got was Jab Tak Hai Jaan. I got paid Rs 2 lakh for it, for around 20 days. Rs 20,000 per day wasn’t bad at all. There was no question of negotiating over the salary; I was happy to do it for free also.”
Having worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Sharib thought he had made it. But it didn’t happen that way. Sharib shared, “I thought I’d made it, but for one reason or another, nothing was working out. Films I had signed for were cancelled, some were left incomplete, others weren’t released. One year turned to two, two to three. This period was more difficult, because before Filmistaan, I’d never seen any success. So, when people started turning their backs after that, it was a difficult pill to swallow.”
Sharib’s brother-in-law asked him to quit acting and settle in the US, but the actor was determined. However, it became difficult to handle people’s perception. Sharib recalled being told by people, ‘You’ve worked with Shah Rukh Khan and still nothing has changed?’ The actor said, “That’s what regular people believe, don’t they? Once you’ve worked with a huge star, you’re sorted. But everyone has their own journey. I was determined, I didn’t want to do anything else.”

Thankfully, Sharib didn’t give up and continued with his hard work. Eventually, his efforts were recognised and they got their due. Today, he has worked with so many big names and has also gotten opportunities to show his versatility. Last year, with Vikram Vedha, he turned antagonist, and recently was also seen as Huma Qureshi’s husband in Tarla. Now, the audience is awaiting his return to The Family Man season 3 with Manoj Bajpayee among other projects.
