On Thursday, the winners of 69th National Film Awards were announced and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions scored a big win. Director Vishnu Vardhan received a Special Jury Mention at the National Film Awards for his film Shershaah. And this win just adds to the success streak that the production house is on.
Shershaah wins a National Film Award
The Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer is a biopic on Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra who lost his life in the 1999 Kargil War. The film received immense praise on its release in 2021 and won many accolades too. With this National Award, it achieves another huge milestone. This marks Dharma Productions’ second National Award after Karan Johar won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for his debut directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Not just his films, but the filmmaker himself has been felicitated by the Indian government. Last year, Karan Johar was bestowed with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. The honour recognised the filmmaker’s contribution to Hindi cinema.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani success
This year, Karan completed his 25 years as a director in Hindi films and he marked it with his 7th directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Apart from the national honours, with this film Karan and his production house tasted box office success too. The film emerged a hit and has collected over Rs 150 crores at the Indian box office.
Dharma Productions has been entertaining the whole of India for decades now. These honours and box office glory just speaks about the value of their contributions. With Shershaah’s National Award, the production house just continues its success streak.
