During an event of AIDS awareness campaign in Delhi in the year 2007, Shilpa Shetty was involved in a controversy as Hollywood actor Richard Gere planted a kiss on her cheek at the event, leaving some people offended who eventually filed a complaint against them in Rajasthan. Recently, there has been a new development on the same.

In January earlier this year, Metropolitan Magistrate Ketaki Chavan discharged Shilpa from the obscenity case, calling her a ‘victim’ while also giving her a clean chit. A part of the judgement read, “I am satisfied that the charge against the present accused i.e. Shilpa Shetty is groundless.” However, the Alwar police challenged the judgment later.
Now, Shilpa has moved to court seeking a dismissal of the plea in the case also involving Richard Gere. The plea had challenged the magistrate’s order of releasing her from the case. In her appeal, Shilpa has claimed that the only allegation against her is that she did not protest when Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed her which does not make her a conspirator.

According to a report by Times Of India, a part of the reply submitted by advocate Prashant Patil reads, “That the respondent (Shilpa Shetty Kundra) is a victim of malicious proceedings and harassment at the hands of the original complainant. The respondent is an established artist and has always acted responsibly in her public life and private life.”

On the work front, Shilpa made her full fledged return to acting last year with Hungama 2, and this year she came back to theatres with Nikamma. Next up, she has Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force with Sidharth Malhotra and Vivek Oberoi, and the slice-of-life film Sukhee.
