It has been 15 years since Shilpa Shetty was last seen on the big screen. She had two releases in 2007 with Life In A Metro and Apne, and after that she took a sabbatical from acting to focus more on her family and married life. She did appear in a few cameo appearances like in the song Shut Up and Bounce in Dostana, but now the actress is all set for a full-fledged acting comeback on the big screen with Nikamma that releases this Friday.

Even though Nikamma was supposed to be the comeback project for Shilpa Shetty, her other release, Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2 came first last year in July but on OTT. The actress was paired alongside Paresh Rawal, Meezaan Jafri and Pranitha Subhash in the comedy that was met with a lukewarm response on its release.

During a recent interaction with the media for the promotions of Nikamma, the actress opened up about the failure of Hungama 2 and acknowledged that maybe that wasn’t the right project for her to mark her return to acting. “I feel that I have always been a massy heroine but I also believe that I am here to entertain. So, if there is some kind of content I feel that people will like to watch or maybe there is a director I want to work with, I will do that for that reason. I just go with my gut instinct. Priyan sir is a director I really wanted to work with but that (Hungama 2) really wasn’t an ideal comeback for me. But I could never say no to Ratan (Jain) ji as we belong to that generation of actors,” she said.
When mentioned that Shilpa did do a good job in Hungama 2, the actress went on to assert that when the film doesn’t work, it becomes futile. “I was good but what is its use. Luckily it came on OTT. But with due respect, I loved being part of Hungama 2 as I have a lot of respect for Priyan sir who is an absolute maverick,” she insists.
