Shiv Sena leader issues threat to competitors of ‘Thackeray’ on releasing their movie on the same date

Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Thackeray’ biopic’s trailer was released just a couple of days back. The trailer depicted the life and times of late Bal Thackeray. ‘Thackeray’s trailer has divided opinion and quite a few people have not taken too kindly to certain scenes from the trailer.

Now, ‘Thackeray’ is getting released on January 25, 2019. But, on that same date, Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Manikarnika’ and Emraan Hashmi starrer ‘Cheat India’ is also getting released. Now, Bala Lokare, who is a functionary of Shiv Sena’s film wing has issued a threat and said that Bhartiya Chitrapat Sena will not allow any other film to clash with ‘Thackeray’.

“The film ‘Thackeray’ is releasing on January 25. We will not let any other film to release on the same day,” read a Facebook post by Lokare.

He was later quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror, “If anyone does release a film, then we will give them a Shiv Sena-style answer. Since the film is based on Sena founder Bal Thackeray, this is the view of all the Shiv Shainiks who follow him.”

The maker of ‘Manikarnika’, Kamal Jain has said that Kangana Ranaut starrer will definitely release on January 25. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut, who is the producer of ‘Thackeray’ distanced himself from Lokare’s comments and said this is not the official stand of Shiv Sena.

It would be interesting to know what happens next as every filmmaker has a right to release his film whenever he/she wants. India is the world’s largest democracy and it is high time we start behaving like one.
