Veteran actor and theatre personality Dr Shreeram Lagoo passed away on December 17. He was 92 at the time of death. The actor died of prolonged illness and he was admitted to Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital. As reported by IANS, his last rites were performed on December 19 with full state honours by the Maharashtra government with a 21 gun salute. His body was draped in Tricolor. The cremation was delayed as his son Anand Lagoo couldn’t reach Pune from the United States as his flight was delayed.
Since December 17, Shreeram Lagoo’s body was kept in a glass casket at the Balgandharva Rang Mandir. Fans went to have the last glimpses of the veteran actor. Subhash Desai, Pune MP Girish Bapat, city Mayor Murlidhar Mohal, Amol Palekar, Nana Patekar, and Urmila Marthondkar among others attended the funeral.
Lagoo worked in Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati films and plays. He was best known for his Marathi films such as ‘Sinhasan’, ‘Shasan’ and ‘Samna’. He worked in Bollywood movies like ‘Laawaris’, ‘Kalaakar’ and ‘Professor Pyarelal’. For the unversed, he was a trained ENT surgeon and he practiced in a hospital in Kenya.
Many Bollywood celebs like Rishi Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Paresh Rawal and others offered their condolences to Shreeram Lagoo’s family.
