Shreyas Talpade lauds Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency

In a recent interview with PTI, Shreyas Talpade expressed his delight over the CBFC clearing Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated political drama, ‘Emergency’, for release. “I’m thrilled that Emergency has been cleared because it’s a well-made film on an important subject. Kangana has poured her heart and soul into this project, and it deserves to be seen,” Shreyas said. Talpade plays the role of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film. The actor praised Ranaut’s hard work and passion in bringing this important story to the screen.

“I’m very happy for ‘Emergency’ that finally we got clearance. Because it’s a good film being made on a good subject. Kangana has made the film with a lot of hard work and passion and the film should come out,” Talpade said.

The political drama was written, directed, and co-produced by Ranaut. It was earlier scheduled for a September 6 release but faced delays in securing CBFC clearance. The film found itself embroiled in controversy after Sikh organizations accused it of misrepresenting their community and getting facts wrong.

Despite the obstacles, Talpade remains optimistic about the film’s potential. “It’s difficult for the producers to think, ‘Forget all that has happened’ because they faced financial loss. I’m passionately looking forward to the film getting released and watching it because it is a fantastic film,” he added.

For Talpade, the opportunity to showcase his versatility in a serious role like Vajpayee was a welcome change. The actor recalled being typecast in comedic roles earlier in his career, before breaking out with films like ‘Golmaal’. “Today, after a spate of comedy films people are like, ‘Will I be able to do a serious role or not’,” he said.

Talpade’s latest work includes lending his voice to Timon in the Hindi version of ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film serves as both a prequel and sequel to the 2019 remake of the Disney classic.

Talpade emphasized the film’s relevance in teaching children about the triumph of the underdog. He stated, “What is most important is what we are teaching kids through this film. Like, a story like this will always stay relevant, the story of the triumph of the underdog, so all the kids will feel, ‘Even I can achieve whatever I want despite all the obstacles’.”

With Talpade’s endorsement and the CBFC’s clearance, ‘Emergency’ is now slated for a January 17 theatrical release, eagerly anticipated by both the actor and the audience.
