Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, who also happens to be the president of Film & Television Producers Guild of India, was present at a session at this year’s JIO MAMI Film Festival, as one of the trustees.
In an enriching conversation that discussed cinema at present, Siddharth advocated in favour of films with powerful content that would stir the audience, and said filmmakers must give the audience a reason to buy tickets and watch a film.

“We have to give audiences a reason to come to the cinema. Either present them with a film like ‘Baahubali’ or a must watch in theatres like ‘Dangal’. Or alternatively, deliver them with films that garner strong positive word of mouth, that would draw audiences to theatres. Then there are films like ‘PINK’, ‘Neerja’, and ‘Kahani’, that in spite of being easily available on DVDs and online pull viewers to cinema halls owing to the post-release buzz. I think it’s very important to create that type of cinema. A film today has to be great, being sweet and nice is not enough to draw footfalls,” he said.
Siddharth, as a producer, has backed films like ‘Barfi’, ‘Jagga Jasoos’, ‘Kai Po Che!’, ‘Heroine’ and many more.
