Ratan Tata – the Chairman of the Tata Sons Group is no more. During his lifetime, the philanthropist industrialist was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008 – India’s third and second-highest civilian awards. The philanthropist – passed away on Wednesday, October 9 at age 86, and was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on October 7 for routine medical investigations due to his age and related medical conditions. Last evening news surfaced of him being in critical condition and bein shifted to the ICU.
Amitabh Bachchan mourns Ratan Tata
Amitabh Bachchan took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and penned a lover and admiration-filled note remembering the late philanthropist. Big B tweeted, “Just came to learn of the passing of Shri Ratan Tata .. was working very late.” He further added, “An era has ended.. a most respected, humble yet visionary leader of immense foresight and resolve.. Spent some wonderful moments with him, during several Campaigns we were involved in together .. My prayers”
Simi pens an emotional note for ex-lover
Simi Garewal, who once admitted to dating Ratan Tata, took to social media and shared a heartfelt tribute following his demise. Sharing a picture from their interaction on her show – Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, the actress wrote, “They say you have gone .. It’s too hard to bear your loss..too hard.. Farewell my friend..#RatanTata”

Ratan Tata joined the Tata group in 1961, where he worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He later succeeded J. R. D. Tata as chairman of Tata Sons upon the latter’s retirement in 1991. Under his tenure, the Tata Group acquired brands such as Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus among others. The industrialist invested in companies like Snapdeal, Teabox, CashKaro, and Ola Cabs. Tata is also one of the largest and notable philanthropists, having donated around 60–65% of his income to charity.
