In 2014, singer Ankit Tiwari was accused of raping a woman after promising to marry her. The 28-year-old woman, who is an advertising professional, alleged that he raped her a number of times between 2013 and 2014 and had promised to get hitched to her.
Based on the allegations and a police complaint filed at Versova police station, Ankit was arrested on May 8, 2014. Yesterday, after long legal proceedings, he was acquitted of all charges, by a special women’s court.
The complaint by the concerned woman further included that Ankit got intimate with her at her sister’s birthday party, which he video-recorded. After that, he threatened her to release the tape if she didn’t agree to a physical relationship with him. Apparently, he promised to marry her as well. (Also Read: What! However, the prosecution failed to prove the allegations brought against the singer. They examined only four out 11 witnesses, and failed to interrogate the medical officer who examined the woman.
