After conviction, Mehndi was in custody of the Patiala Court, before his tenure in prison was announced. However, he has been granted a bail immediately.
Daler and brother Shamsher Singh were accused of sending illegally sending people to other countries, presenting them as members of their musical troup, while they charged a fat amount from each for the same.
Earlier, Mehndi’s Delhi office at Connaught place was also raided and a few documents pertaining to illegal immigrants paying him money were seized.
Three years after the accusation took place, Patiala police 2006 filed discharge petitions, calling Mehndi innocent but the court opted for further investigation.
