Veteran actor Smriti Biswas passed away at her Nashik house, in Maharashtra, on July 3. The yesteryear actor died at the age of 100 due to age-related illness. Biswas was known for her work in Bengali, Hindi and Marathi. Director Hansal Mehta has also shared an emotional condolence note on his Instagram, saying, “Go away in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives.” Hansal Mehta even shared some unseen pictures of the veteran actor in his tribute post.
Smriti Biswas started her career as a child artist and has worked with some renowned stars like Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. She has also acted with Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar and other notable artists during her career. Biswas retired from acting after marrying film director S.D Narang in 1960. Presently she is living a life of poverty in Nashik. Smriti has two sons, Rajeev and Satyajeet
