In one of her recent interviews, Sonakshi Sinha used the word ‘bhangi’ and it offended the Valmiki community. They held protests against the actress in Uttar Pradesh, Moradabad and even burnt her effigy. Sonakshi has apologised for her comment. Taking to her Twitter handle, she released a statement (Hindi and English) calling her comments “unintentional” and “un-derogatory”.
Her statement read as: “With reference to an interview I did with Siddharth Kanan on July 23, 2019, I place on record that I have tremendous regard and respect for the Valmiki Samaj and all their valuable contributions to our society and country. If any person or community has been hurt by the usage of any word by me, despite it being unintentional and un-derogatory to anyone, I humbly apologise for the same.”

It was during the radio interview with RJ Siddharth Kanan when Sonakshi was asked about her airport looks. She said that she loves casual airport style and that sometimes she’s so busy, she doesn’t have the time to get ready. She said, “Yeh thodi hai ki purposely ghar jaake, ‘bhangi’ banke chali jayungi.”
Sonakshi’s recent release was ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’ that opened with Rs 75 lakh and is struggling for good numbers at the box office.
