Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heera Mandi?

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for making larger-than-life and extravagant period dramas. The director is always looking to tell a story that not only touches the audience but also leaves them spellbound with his presentation. While Bhansali is currently filming Gangubai Kathiawadi, the latest buzz suggests that he is collaborating with Netflix for his next, Heera Mandi.

According to a Pinkvilla report, Heera Mandi, which was earlier supposed to be a film, will now be made into a series. And reportedly Sonakshi Sinha will play a powerful role in this series. Read on to know the details.

The report further stated that while Sonakshi is keen on doing Heera Mandi, she is yet to sign the series. Apparently, Sonakshi’s role is not only powerful and but it also has some shades of grey.

Speaking about the show, a source close to the development told the portal, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be directing the first two and the last episode, while Vibhu Puri will be directing the remaining ones. Vibhu has begun the pre-production in full swing while casting for a lot more characters is underway. Major portions of the film will be shot on the sets.”

Apart from Sonakshi, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala will also be coming on board for Heera Mandi. Apparently, the series is based on the renowned red light area in the Walled City of Lahore.

Previously, Priyanka Chopra was supposed to play the leading role in Heera Mandi. However, looks like that plan couldn’t materialise. In fact, Rani Mukerji, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and several other names were also attached to Heera Mandi, however, the project was put on hold and these names were never finalised. Now that, it is finally going on floors, we hope the makers will make an official announcement very soon.
