Actress Sonam Kapoor has always been vocal and upfront about her opinions and views that matter to her. She has never shied away from expressing her opinions on various topics. So recently she was all out discussing censorship and bans in our country. Well, it has been noticed that the freedom of expression has lead many public figures in trouble and this happens more so in India where every word spoken has to be well-planned and well thought out. Sonam’s views on the same are inspiring to the core. (Also Read: Did Sonam Kapoor celebrate her first date anniversary with alleged beau Anand Ahuja?)

Speaking to a popular daily, Sonam said that she is pro-choice. She cited an example from her recent trip to Amsterdam, calling it as the safest cities. She said, “Most of the Dutch people don’t smoke up because the choice is theirs and they don’t have to hide and do it. Even prostitution is legal there. And they have the least number of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) cases over there. They have the lowest crime rate because everyone has a choice and they use it responsibly; with the right precautions and safety measures.”

She also spoke on how being a gay is still not considered right in India and what can be done. “A lot of my friends are in the closet and I feel like that they make certain decisions that might not be good for their mental, emotional and physical health, because they can’t be open about their lives. Hence, they can’t make informed decisions because they feel it’s illegal to be gay in our country and the right information is not available to them. Information should be given and people should be more liberal in their thought process, otherwise young people will be confused and hurt themselves.” said Sonam.

She finally concluded by saying, “There are so many different types of mindsets, it’s confusing. So everything should be allowed and open. There should be freedom of press, of expression — freedom of every kind — so that people can make informed decisions.”
