Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is a straight shooter and likes to speak her mind without worrying about consequences. The ‘Veere Di Wedding’ actress has always spoken about relevant issues and has also developed into a very fine actress.
Sonam Kapoor’s latest film ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga‘ has released and staying true to her style, she is playing a lesbian character in the film. Now, the ‘Sanju’ actress appeared on Kareena Kapoor’s radio show, ‘What Women Want’, and talked about how homosexuality is portrayed on the big screen.
During their interaction, Kareena said, “In Hindi films, we have seen two women be in love but we hardly see this with men.” Replying to this, Sonam said, “Society, in general, likes to control who women or men love.”
“They are ageist, sexist and homophobic. And you just want to control it. So, I think when there is a little bit of conflict in a story, it just adds something to it. Film and art is just a reflection of what is going on in the society,” Sonam added.
Sonam Kapoor has always been a risk taker and is portraying a lesbian character in Shelly Chopra Dhar’s ‘ELKDTAL’.

Kareena like Sonam is also very liberal and modern in her mindset and asked Sonam about the mindset of parents regarding how they influence their children’s choices.
Sonam again reiterated the same point and said, ”There is a change societally. In India, how people have to let relationships and let love be. There are still so many honour killings, there are still so many people who run away from their house or are disowned by their parents and family.”
It is so good and refreshing to see Sonam Kapoor talking about taboo and controversial things. We need more women like Sonam in the industry, who don’t beat around the bush and call spade a spade.
I am crazy and obsessed with politics, sports and entertainment. A journalist, who is not afraid to give his opinion and believes in calling spade a spade. I like to think on my feet and come up with original, fresh and out of the box ideas.
